Because we're doing our son's nursery in a Sock Monkey theme, I've had to make a lot of the accessories. I made a mobile to hang above his crib, but I need suggestions on how to do this. Our ceilings are high (about 12 feet), and our house was built in 1941. My first idea was to hang it from a hook screwed into the ceiling, but I am afraid the plaster will just crumble down and ruin our new paint job. I've also thought about buying a cheap musical mobile that attaches to the crib and removing what's there and adding mine, but another point in making my own was to cut costs, so I'm not sure I see the point in that. I've also thought about getting some sort of hook and screwing that into the wall on the side of the crib. The only problem with this is to get the mobile to hang in the desired position, this hook would have to be at least 18 inches long. I've looked in the garden section of Lowe's for a plant hook that could be spray painted to match the room, but they only make such hooks 12 inches...Any other ideas or suggestions on how to get this thing up?

Love your sock monkey idea. I would suggest buying a used mobile and attaching the monkeys. I just sold ours at the tree streets garage sale for $5. Good luck. And send pic's!

I'm sure you could find a used mobile at a consignment shop somewhere.
