I am TERRIFIED of snow now that we've been through that one bad snow. It was a wet snow, and most of us were without power. I can handle loosing power any other time of the year but winter.
What do you think? What will happen? I NEED TO KNOW!! LOL!

This winter is really reminding me of the first year I came up here for college. I think it was winter 1996 or 97. I remember there being three big snows that year. It was fun back then when I was living on campus and had "authorities" making sure you are taken care of when the power goes out. I remember there being snowball fights in the dorms while it was out even. But now out on our own with a little one.. I fear the dreaded power failure too. Sooo cold, and trying to keep a little one warm as well as entertained when you can't leave the house, can't see in the dark, etc... then there's the food preparation and trying to keep stuff from going bad. Oy! Praying for no outages. At least this time it's predicted to warm up faster next week so it hopefully won't stick around long.

I know a lot of people that go by the Farmer's Almanac and according to it, this snow it supposed to hit pretty good. It had predicted the other snow back in December as well. I'm really hoping it's wrong though because according to it there are a few more that's supposed to hit our area. I'm with you, I hate being without power with little ones. I have a 2 year old and a 9 mth old and my 2 year old hates being in total darkness! I'm praying if we do get it we can at least keep our power!

i think we are the very few people that actually wanted it to snow.
we love the snow since we ski and all that good stuff.
as far as power goes we have generators and everything we are very prepared.
as far as food we are awalways good on that.
we usually stay with the inlaws just in case b/c they have a camper and a garage witha huge huge furnace so keeping warm is not a problem i know for others it is..but they have built up there supply over the years....
we went skiing yesterday (sunday) and it was awesome..we actually got more snow here then banner elk nc, thats crazy!

I used to ski as a child, and I loved it. I never experienced a power outage like the one we had in December, and it honeslty freaked me out. I am used to several feet of snow each winter, while staying warm and cozy by the fire (I am from MD). Snow is GREAT, don't get me wrong, but when the power goes out and you're stuck on a hill, the fun fades fast. That is why I as TERRIFIED.
I am glad we had a good snow. It was actually really nice being stuck inside!! Of course, my little son was sick the whole time, but it was nice to be cozy and warm.
Glad you had a fun ski trip!!

When our power went out Friday night on Dec 18, we stayed the night at home. My kids are 18 & 20. We got up Saturday morning and the power was on long enough for the coffee to almost finish brewing... we drank it anyway. After that we decided it was too cold to stay put. We ended up at the Red Cross shelter at the Carters Valley Ruritan/ Volunteer Fire Dept. It was an interesting adventure. When the water pumping station's power went out leaving this shelter without water, the Red Cross then moved to the Mt Carmel Fire Dept. Yet another cool adventure unfolded. We met some interesting people and chatted with the firemen too.
Even my mishap at the Church Hill Food City store, with me lying sprawled out in one aisle was funny to think about afterward. Lesson to be learned, forget the el cheapo winter boots with smooth rubber soles and watch out for even the small-sized puddles of water.
As a kid, my brother and sisters made snow tunnels in our front yard in Ohio. Nebraska had three foot snow drifts and winter lasted from Nov through Mar often. We once had snow there in May. MD and MA could have fairly big snows, as Germany. But this wet snow here is something else.
And I would worry had my kids been little. We kidded our son, saying he'd have an interesting term paper on "What I Did During Winter Vacation." He had his laptop and had connections at both shelters so he was good to go.
The Red Cross and Firefighter volunteers were great. We were treated to warm meals and a warm place to stay. Mt Carmel even had showers we could use. Those wonderful firefighters along with the ones in Caters Valley kindly lent us their station, their home away from home. They went out of their way to be sure we were comfortable and the Mt Carmel firefighter wives even brought us turkey and ham along with cake for dessert. The Red Cross volunteers along with the firefighters were very friendly. Their kindness meant a lot for some very cold and frozen people. Our hearts were warmed.
I wanted to pitch my story to the Times-News and e-mailed them online at the paper's website asking where to pitch the story to... I never received a reply. This was a good human interest story, fell into different categories and the paper's masthead wasn't real clear to me either on who to pitch the story to. And then I let too much time go by... before the storm hit we had planned to spend Christmas in Delaware with some of my family. But that wasn't possible after the storm since Delaware was harder hit than us. But they had dry snow so their power didn't go out. If any of you Times-News staff reads this I'd greatly appreciate know where to pitch article ideas to. I'm really not sure how the Times-News website works... they updated it since the last time I had used it.
Delaware received about 2 1/2 feet of snow this weekend. They're really getting stomped and expect even more snow on Tuesday. While it was snowing over the weekend visibility was so bad and it was snowing so fast people were actually banned from being on the road unless they were snow plows or emergency vehicles.
I've heard we might get stomped on with another snowstorm on the 17th that's supposed to hit us. It's been a long time since there has been big snows here and I guess we were overdue. I still like snow... just not too keen on the wet kind.
